The Mojos
New in town, 'The Mojo's' are three talented musicians who are in it for the pure joy of music. As such they play a selection of songs and styles that they genuinely enjoy and in return convey that joy to their audience. Covering a selection of music from the 60's through to current day chart toppers, they also like to do a few different tunes from your favourite artists that haven't been done to death. It's variety that keeps it fresh for both listener and player alike.
The three Mojo's are from varying backgrounds; Matt Angell (Guitar & Lead Vocals): Originally from Karratha in the north west region, Matt learnt his craft performing up and down the coast as well as many of Perth's top past and present venues. He has released two original folk rock albums and received national radio airplay. Matt also supported national and international artists like the Badloves and the late Jeff Buckley. In 2001 he landed in far north Queensland and spent the best part of 10 years performing on the resort islands and backpacker bars of Airlie Beach. However, even paradise can get monotonous so he decided to come back home to Western Australia and sing some tunes to some familiar faces.
Matt Snelson (Drums): Matt's passion for the drums started in high school when he and his mates would sneak into the high school music room to rock out playing some of their favourite tunes before class. Matt was hooked and over the coming years he would play in several original rock bands, regularly gigging around Perth and Southwest WA, and releasing a few demo's and EPs. In his early 20's, he started to broaden his musical horizons and became more interested in blues, jazz and funk music. This led him to a variety of new musical pursuits including regular functions and festivals as a big band drummer, playing drums and percussion in musicals, even being called on at 2 hours notice to play in a marching band! Throughout it all Matt's love of the music and instrument shines through. It can be felt in his solid time-keeping and effortless groove, and seen in the infectious grin he seems to have any time he's behind the kit.
Ryan Taylor (Bass Guitar): Originally from Wollongong NSW, Ryan got involved in music 10 years ago while attending school and playing in school bands and shows. He then joined original band 'Khorosho' playing shows around the Sydney/South Coast region for 3 years. Their biggest highlight was winning the Illawarra TAFE band comp and moving onto the TAFE state finals. Ryan recently relocated to Perth for work commitments and to continue enjoying playing and writing music. His major musical influences include the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Queen and Muse.
Together, The Mojo's are pleased to be getting out there to put some Mojo into the music.
