Kings & Queens

Kings and Queens are a half Australian half British folk duo based in Fremantle, W.A composed of partners Kaleisha Dutton and Richard Glover. Taking inspiration from their collection of old country and folk records, Kings and Queens ensemble of songs are driven by catchy foot stomping guitar riffs topped off with a stunning mix of vocal harmonies appealing to music lovers who grew up on the vibes of Johnny Cash, Simon and Garfunkle and The Carter Family.

Formed towards the end of 2015, the duo have since amassed a wealth of experience playing across Perth’s music scene and since their debut show at Fremantle Beer Festival, Kings and Queens are quickly establishing themselves as one of Perth’s most exciting up and coming folk couplets.

Through their love of storytelling, the pair have wrote numerous songs, 10 of which are set to feature on their debut self-titled album aimed to be released independently in August 2017 and have more recently released their first ever single “Cries of the Fallen” which is a huge step forward in their music career and aims to take listeners on a musical adventure with haunting vocal melodies and soft and mysterious guitar picking, Kings and Queens aim to encapsulate the country vibe of Western Australian life with a modern, catchy hybrid sound found somewhere between The Civil Wars and Mandolin Orange.

“Writing songs is the perfect healing process, the last few years have been full of ups and downs and sometimes it is so easy to feel lost and to wonder where that light at the end of the tunnel is and these songs have been our attempt to gain understanding of the world and more importantly a challenge to ourselves not to give up”. Experiences like that can be found on many tracks on their upcoming album with songs such as “I Will Promise” for example that almost reads like a parable with the ultimate message behind the song being that of the above, no matter what difficulties you may face, have belief and do not give up and you will achieve.

All things point to an exciting future for Kings and Queens as they aim to achieve their dreams of becoming true Troubadours and taking their songs and tales around the globe. “We just want to make music, if people want listen then that’s even better!”
